This pleasure tour takes you from the classic sights in the center of Bielefeld to lesser-known destinations in the west and east of the city. Pack your picnic basket and let yourself be enchanted by the special atmosphere of the squares and places! Discover the dahlia garden in Nordpark, the SchücoArena, the terrace by the reservoir, the mighty Sparrenburg fortress and the sculpture park of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld!
The first stop is Siegfriedplatz in the west of Bielefeld. Everyone is welcome at "Auf'm Siggi". Civic engagement and small stores enliven the square and provide cultural and gastronomic highlights.
From Siegfriedplatz, it's just a stone's throw to the SchücoArena. Traditionally known as the "Alm", the stadium has been attracting soccer fans since 1926. Arminia Bielefeld's venue offers space for over 26,000 spectators. The behind-the-scenes tour of the stadium also lasts around 90 minutes.
There is plenty of space for sports and leisure activities under the old trees in Nordpark. Enjoy the dahlia blossom in late summer and discover the gem of this city park: the neoclassical pavilion!
In the middle of the city, you will come across an old factory castle. Until the early 1970s, flax was spun into linen yarn in the Ravensberger Spinnerei . A citizens' initiative prevented the impending demolition of the factory building. Today, it is impossible to imagine the cityscape and cultural life without the "Raspi" in Ravensberger Park. The Ravensberger Spinnerei now houses the adult education center and historical museum and is a popular cultural and event center in the middle of the city. The director's garden next to Villa Huelsmann - the former villa of the spinning mill director - has been restored largely true to the original plans with a pond and fountain.
A continuous green link runs from the old town of Bielefeld to the eastern district of Heepen. The path along the Lutter and its reservoirs widens into an ever-expanding green corridor. In the east of Bielefeld, you will then discover other special places. The exceptionally species-rich Töpker Teiche nature reserve has been created on the site of a former clay pit. Surrounded by water on three sides, the former Lübrassen manor lies in the valley of the Oldentrup stream. Drive around the "peninsula" and look across the mill pond from the north at the high gabled front with its black and white half-timbering!
Back in Bielefeld's old town, the spacious Sculpture Park of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld offers the best conditions for an inspiring break in the open air among sculptures by Henry Moore, Olafur Eliasson, Thomas Schütte and others.
The Klosterplatz in the old town is a good place to end a beautiful day of cycling.
Sparrenburg detour (2x 1km) from junction 21:
The short, steep ride up to the mighty Sparrenburg fortress, which is accessible all year round, is rewarded with a wonderful panoramic view of the city.
