Museum/Exhibition
Classic modern and contemporary art in unique architecture.
The Kunsthalle Bielefeld is a museum and exhibition venue for 20th and 21st century art. The important collection includes works by Picasso, Sonia and Robert Delaunay, Max Beckmann, Man Ray, painters of the Brücke and the Blaue Reiter, the constructivist movement of the 1920s with László Moholy-Nagy and Oskar Schlemmer, American and German art of the 1970s and 80s as well as the latest positions in international contemporary art. Due to the limited space available in the Kunsthalle, the collection can only be shown temporarily and in excerpts. The sculpture park with works ranging from Auguste Rodin to Richard Serra, Henry Moore and Olafur Eliasson links the Kunsthalle to Bielefeld's city center. As the only German museum building designed by the American architect Philip Johnson in 1968 in his signature "International Style", the Kunsthalle Bielefeld is also an outstanding architectural monument. In addition to collecting and preserving, the development of exhibitions on classical modernism and German and international contemporary art is a focal point of the museum's work.
