Go on a tour of the north-west of Bielefeld, which is criss-crossed by numerous small streams, and discover experiences for all the senses: Listening to the babbling of the Mühlbach stream, climbing playgrounds, feeling the old town on a model, sniffing the scent of roses, observing animals in the zoo ...
The first stop is the Kesselbrink, Bielefeld's largest inner-city square and central meeting point with fountains, seating and - as a highlight - the largest inner-city skate park in Germany. At the public drinking water tap next to the Skatepark, you can sample Bielefeld's tap water and fill up your water bottle.
Through the Ostmannturmviertel with its striking white tower and the Kamphofviertel, you come to the Nordpark. There is plenty of space for sports and leisure activities under the old trees in Nordpark. Enjoy the dahlia blossom in late summer and discover the gem of this city park: the neoclassical pavilion!
The Abenteuerspielplatz Alte Ziegelei is a great place to climb and run around. During the tour, you will come to other playgrounds in Bultkamp-Grünzug, Hasbachtal, Gellershagenpark and Siegfriedplatz.
North of the idyllic Schwarzbachtal lies the Hof Meyer zur Müdehorst. The entrance to the main house, a mighty half-timbered building dating from 1791, is richly decorated with carvings. Take a look at the angels on the farm gate!
At the Oberste Deppendorfer Mühle, you can listen to the babbling of the mill stream.
On the "way back", you continue through the gently undulating plain between the Teutoburg Forest and Wiehengebirge mountains, which resembles a park landscape. Thanks to the fertile loess soil, it has been used intensively for agriculture since the 15th century. The rose nursery in the Deppendorf district is nestled in the hilly landscape.
You can end your tour on Siegfriedplatz or recharge your batteries for the detours to Olderdissen Zoo and Johannisberg. Everyone is welcome at "Auf'm Siggi". Civic involvement and small stores enliven the square and provide cultural and gastronomic highlights in the west of Bielefeld. Visit the weekly market, stroll through the flea market or have a picnic on the sunlit pavement with the smell of freshly roasted coffee in your nose and melt-in-the-mouth ice cream in your hand!
The old market is the heart of the old town and a popular meeting place at any time of year. Between lovingly restored historic facades and gables -
e.g. the Crüwell House.e.g. the Crüwell House with its late Gothic stepped gable from 1530 - there are also culinary delights on offer to tempt you to take a break. A bronze model of the old town can be found next to the stairs to the theater on the Alter Markt, where you can feel the houses. From the Alter Markt, it is only a few meters to the start and finish point of the "Discover Bielefeld!" route at the tourist information office in the New Town Hall.
Detour to Olderdissen Animal Park (2x 2.6km, from junction 21) and Johannisberg/Bürgerterrasse (2x 1.3km from junction 49):
In Olderdissen Animal Park you are sure to discover your personal favorite animal among over 450 animals of 90 different species - and all this daily with free admission. The 16-hectare park is a popular and versatile excursion destination for young and old. Grape tasting allowed" is the motto of the Winzer'scher Garten on the south-eastern slope of the Johannisberg. The name of Bielefeld's only vineyard does not refer to the profession of winegrower, but to the former owner Carl W. Winzer. The Bürgerterrasse offers one of the most beautiful views over the city center.
