The zoo, which was founded in 1930 as a deer park by the town forester, is located in a scenic setting right next to the Teutoburg Forest. Around 450 animals of 100 different species can be observed here on a 15-hectare site with ponds, meadows and forests. The excellent care has made it possible to breed rare animals threatened with extinction. As a popular excursion destination for children and families, the bear enclosure is another attraction at the zoo, which is open all year round and admission is free.
