Not only did the museum receive the "Special Commendation" award as part of the European Museum Of The Year Award 2001, it is also the oldest open-air museum in Westphalia, which has been located on the Ochsenheide in Bielefeld since 1917.
The Möllering farm from Rödinghausen (Herford district) dating from 1590 was built with a great deal of voluntary, private and municipal support. There is also a windmill (1686), a bakehouse (1764), a spieker (1795) and a bokemill (1826) on the site. The themes in the main house and the outbuildings are dedicated to the rural social history of the mid-19th century in the Ravensberg region and depict life on the farm as a complex economic and social system. The café is housed in a barn (1807).
The "Haus des Verkehrsvereins" was inaugurated in 2007. In the former craftsman's house from Vlotho (1568), the museum aims to expand and enhance its educational activities with children (regardless of the weather).
