Krankenhausmuseum Bielefeld

Museum/Exhibition
The museum is dedicated to the historical hospital system.
The collection currently comprises more than 3,500 objects, a selection of which is presented on 146 square meters. Films, pictures, audio clips, texts and books complement various aspects. The museum is designed for people of all ages and for laypeople as well as experts. There is a play corner for children. During the Bielefeld Night Views and on International Museum Day, the hospital museum attracts visitors with special events

The history section shows how the municipal hospitals have developed since 1899. Changing themes from medicine and care in the largest area can be experienced through exhibits, with the "iron lung" taking center stage. 12 patients in one room: this is what a hospital room looked like in the 1950s. Original furniture and treatment and care aids used at the time, e.g. infusions and bandages, can be seen. The laboratory/nursing workroom area is reminiscent of an old teaching laboratory. Diagnostic aids, e.g. for microbiology and for taking blood samples, are on display.

An association founded in 2004 is the sponsor of the hospital museum, which opened in 2010.
