Erpentrup - Bad Driburger Ortsteil

Information point
Erpentrup, nestled in the idyllic "Hagebuttenland", attracts visitors with picturesque paths through a landscape rich in springs. History meets nature, ideal for a relaxing hike.

Erpentrup and Langeland are the two northernmost places in the Bad Driburg hiking area where a particularly large number of rose hips grow. For this reason, the area is also known as "rosehip country".

Erpentrup was first mentioned in a document in 1138 as Erpinchtrop. The name Erpentrup is possibly a combination of "Apa" or "Epe", an old name for a river, and the suffix "-trup", an old name for a village. For almost 300 years, until the family died out, the Erpingtorp estate was owned by the Knights of Iburg.

Langeland, situated on the eastern slope of the Eggegebirge mountains, was first mentioned in a document in 1537 and means something like "pristine land". The village is located on the Altenbeken - Hanover railroad line, which takes advantage of the flat Emmertal valley. In the 1950s, there was still a passenger station in Langeland.

The two towns grew closer and closer together. A joint school was established as early as 1878. Today, they share a church, cemetery, sports field, shooting range and fire department. The Emmer river also connects the two villages. It is accompanied by the charming Emmerweg trail - known as X8 for short. The spring trail leads from Langeland through the spring-filled landscape on the eastern slope of the Eggegebirge mountains and the "Hagebuttenrunde" youth hiking trail, which was newly established in 2016, takes hikers past the many rose hips in both villages.
