Memorial and remembrance: the wayside shrine on the old church square in Erpentrup

At the request of the citizens, a wayside shrine was built on the old church square in Erpentrup after the demolition of St. John's Chapel in 1982. The site is now municipal and is intended to commemorate the old St. John's Chapel, which was a sacred place and the center of the village for centuries. It was consecrated in 1988, thus preserving the center of the village. In 1989, the square was given an oak tree to commemorate German reunification. The original church cross still stands in its place.
