Historical profile of the Schonlaukapelle chapel in Dringenberg
The Schonlaukapelle chapel in Dringenberg is a historical building with cultural and historical significance. Embedded in the landscape of Bad Driburg, the chapel conveys an impression of bygone eras and offers a quiet place for contemplation. Its predominantly stone and wooden construction with handcrafted details illustrates the building methods of earlier generations and makes it equally relevant for visitors interested in art and history. Its location in the countryside of the Weserbergland offers good starting points for walks and regional explorations.
The chapel is located around two kilometers from Dringenberg on a hill and belongs to the parish of St. Mary's Birth. Surrounded by a group of trees, it can be seen from a great distance. The site was used from the 15th century as the location of the free court of the Oberwald district and was mentioned in 1642 as the highest episcopal free court, where appointments were also possible. The current chapel was built in 1780 to replace a dilapidated previous building and was dedicated to Liborius, the patron saint of the diocese.
