The Neuer Markt, the center of Herford's new town, is one of the most beautiful squares in Herford and is characterized by half-timbered and Renaissance architecture. The fountain from 1599 shows a knight with the banner and shield of the free imperial city of Herford. The fountain, which was sold by the town around 1830, was rebuilt in its old location in 1962. The former town hall of the new town, which was independent until 1634, is a stone gabled house with a medieval core. Its Weser Renaissance gable, which was demolished in 1930, was reconstructed in 1988/89. The Wulfert House, built in 1560, has a gable in the Lippe Renaissance style and illustrates the self-confidence of Herford's merchants and bourgeoisie.
