This exciting canoe tour takes you from Bad Salzuflen-Schötmar to the center of the old Hanseatic town of Herford.

The canoe tour starts on the Bega, which initially meanders narrowly and quickly past Bad Salzuflen. Small rapids make for a varied paddling experience. At the confluence with the Werre, the river becomes wider and calmer. The subsequent course of the Werre was developed into the "Lippischer Canal" as early as 1771 and leads leisurely through an idyllic landscape of fields and meadows to Herford. A break awaits you about halfway along the route, inviting you to get out and take a deep breath.
With a duration of approx. 2-3 hours, the tour offers a balanced mixture of relaxed moments and exciting challenges - ideal for beginners as well as experienced paddlers.

Author´s Tip / Recommendation of the author

As a canoeist, you too can make your contribution to ensuring the quality of recreational and leisure use in nature and the countryside. To do this, it is essential to follow a few rules:

If you are not part of an organized tour, please observe the navigation rules that apply to many rivers.

  • Avoid entering reed beds, overgrown sections of riverbank and shallow water areas, as these are not only home to endangered plants, but also breeding and rearing grounds for many animal species.
  • Avoid making noise and observe the animals from a greater distance.
  • Please only take short breaks in designated rest areas.
  • Always leave the river as you would like to find it and dispose of your waste in the designated areas.
  • Never paddle under the influence of alcohol. Drunken canoeists endanger their own safety, disturb the natural environment and have a lasting negative impact on the acceptance of canoeing.

Safety guidelines

Always wear a life jacket when paddling! Do not paddle in unfamiliar waters without a map and pay attention to warning signs and information boards. Never paddle in high water and interrupt your trip in the event of bad weather! You can obtain important information on the safe execution of your canoe tour from Rio Negro.
