Wasserschloss Tatenhausen

Tip
Fortress/Castle
For over 470 years, the castle  was the ancestral seat of the Barons and Counts of Korff gen. Schmising. Today, direct descendants of the family live in the castle.
Tatenhausen, a Weser Renaissance castle, was the ancestral seat of the Barons and Counts of Korff gen. Schmising. Since 1995, the castle has been inhabited by direct descendants of the Counts of Korff-Schmising, Baroness and Baron Teuffel von Birkensee.

The moated castle, surrounded by moats and ancient groves of trees, was built on two islands in 1540. A baroque altar imported from Rome adorns the castle chapel. The "Orangery" designed by Johann Conrad Schlaun is considered a baroque masterpiece. Let the baroness herself or a family member guide you through the castle courtyards and chapel. You will learn lots of interesting facts about the historical background and architecture of the palace complex.

Note:
As all the buildings are inhabited, only the palace chapel can be visited from the inside. An interior tour of the other buildings is not possible.
