Pfarrkirche Stockkämpen

Church
The Reformation created a religious patchwork quilt in Germany. The Ravensberg region adhered to the pre-Ottoman faith, with only a few noble families remaining Catholic. These included the noble houses of Holtfeld (Franz Wilhelm Freiherr von Wendt) and Tatenhausen (Friedrich Matthias Freiherr von Korff-Schmiesing). However, they did not have their own church.

In the search for urgently needed space for prayer, they finally came across an unusable piece of sand called "Stockkampf" or "Stockkämpe" and built the Catholic church on it, which was consecrated in 1696. Simple on the outside, the typical Baroque splendor only unfolds on the inside. The vesper image of the Pietà became a destination for pilgrims, who also walked the Way of the Cross around the church every year. A cemetery was laid out behind the church for the deceased, which over the years has developed into a jewel of its own.
