Wasserschloss Holtfeld
The castle in the Borgholzhausen district of Holtfeld consists of an outer bailey, a middle house and a main house. The still partially existing moat and the oak avenue entrance are remarkable. It was first mentioned in a document in 1350 and was owned by the Lords of Wendt from 1491 to 1863. The manor house (1599-1602) is a massive gabled building with a square corner tower and magnificent volute gables. The southern gable features pilaster strips and entablature strips in the form of the Horst building group, combined with Weser Renaissance motifs. There is a picturesque façade division with the bay window on the west side. Above the entrance are two magnificent coat of arms stones of the builder Wendt-Ense (1599). The castle has two gatehouses, the interior with a bassiered arched doorway, niche sculpture and coat of arms from 1632, the exterior is a square pavilion from 1705 with coat of arms plaques between elongated farm buildings from 1660, partly half-timbered. The entire complex is now private property.
