The Lindeneck in Herste - experience history, enjoy nature

The Lindeneck in Herste is a picturesque place of remembrance, embedded in nature and rich in history. It owes its origins to the impressive wooden sculpture of the "Carbonic Acid Man", which Franz Freytag donated to the municipality. The 2.55-metre-high figure with a large gas cylinder on its shoulders is a reminder of the importance of carbonic acid production for Herste, which was still mainly carried out by hand around 1900. It is complemented by a historic pump that was used to compress the gas and make it transportable.

After a long period of planning, the Lindeneck was officially opened in 2002 as a place of remembrance and contemplation. It continued to develop over the years: 2006 saw the addition of a maypole, 2015 saw the first Advent decorations - with an illuminated nativity scene and an Advent wreath, which have been welcoming visitors and locals in the run-up to Christmas ever since.

Today, Lindeneck is a real insider tip for anyone who wants to combine nature and history. The quiet, slightly hidden location, surrounded by forests and fields, invites you to stroll, pause and discover.
