Church
Exposed church with imposing wall on a groyne
When the land along the river in Bünde was still swampy and impassable, the people built a bulwark for protection - against the water and probably also against unwelcome visitors. This groyne or dam-like character of the fortification apparently led to the old town name "auf dem Buin" = Bünde. The exposed Laurentius Church and its imposing church wall still reveal the fortified complex today. A ford led through the Else near the church, which continued into the old Bolldamm, today's Bahnhofstraße.
