The hike begins at the hiking information point in Langeland. From there, the trail leads through the well-kept village, past impressive 500-year-old oak trees and numerous rosehip bushes, which give the trail its name. Near the "Dicken Bruch" near Erpentrup, there is a wide view over the so-called "Hagebuttenland" and up to the Eggegebirgskamm ridge.
Through a small wooded area, you reach the Emmer, along the banks of which the trail runs leisurely through Erpentrup. There you pass historic milk churns and an old manor house that was once used as a glassworks. The route continues to the memorial to fallen soldiers and finally to the Bodostein. This memorial stone commemorates Count Bodo von Oeynhausen, who died of a serious brain disease in 1910 and is said to have once shot a mighty four-toed stag on this spot. The monumental stones of the memorial come from Velmerstot and were once transported here by horse-drawn cart.
The path then climbs and leads through the impressive forest to the Black Cross. According to legend, a charcoal burner was cruelly killed here by plunderers during the Thirty Years' War, which is why the forest area still bears this name today. This place is ideal for a break to enjoy the provisions you have brought with you.
Further up, you reach the Rehberghütte, which used to house a telegraph station. From there, the route leads through the spring area, past the Aaquelle, and on to the well-known Emmerquelle, from which the tributary of the Weser rises. Shortly afterwards, you hike again through the rosehip country to the Eggegebirgshütte in Langeland, which is equipped with barbecue, play and camping areas, sanitary facilities and overnight accommodation. From here, you can return to the starting point of the tour in just a few minutes.
If you wish, you can also reach the youth hiking trail via an access route (X8) from Altenbeken train station or combine the route with a detour to the viewing tower on Velmerstot.
