Stroll through the city by bike, discover classic sights and hidden highlights of Bielefeld: the old factory castle in the middle of the city, the landmark of the Ostmannturm district, the gem in the Nordpark, the living room of Bielefeld's west and the squares of the old town.
Only a few meters from the starting point at the New Town Hall is the Old Town Hall. Walk into the secluded inner courtyard between the Old Town Hall and the municipal theater and find the Hanseatic ship high up on the richly decorated Renaissance gable from the 16th century!
The buildings on Ravensberger Straße between "Anker-Brücke" (house no. 12) and Teutoburger Straße give you an idea of the old face of the city. Look out for the ravens at house no. 63! They are reminiscent of the namesake of the county of Ravensberg, whose capital was Bielefeld.
Until the early 1970s, flax was spun into linen yarn in the Ravensberger Spinnerei . A citizens' initiative prevented the impending demolition of the castle-like factory building. Today, it is impossible to imagine the cityscape and cultural life without the "Raspi" in Ravensberger Park. The Ravensberger Spinnerei is now home to the adult education center and historical museum and is a popular cultural and event center in the middle of the city. The director's garden next to Villa Huelsmann - the former villa of the spinning mill director - has been restored largely true to the original plans with a pond and fountain.
The Kesselbrink is the largest inner-city square in Bielefeld and a central meeting place with a fountain, seating and - as a highlight - the largest inner-city skate park in Germany.
The 34-metre-high former water tower with its copper spire is the landmark of the stmannturmviertel in the Mitte district. Until 1978, the Ostmann spice company operated several spice mills in it. Some say it still smells of vanilla sometimes ...
There is plenty of space for sports and leisure activities under the old trees in Nordpark. Enjoy the dahlia blossom in late summer and discover the gem of this city park: the neoclassical pavilion!
The SchücoArena, traditionally known as the "Alm", has been attracting soccer fans since 1926. Arminia Bielefeld's venue offers space for over 26,000 spectators. The guided tour behind the scenes also lasts around 90 minutes!
From the SchücoArena, you can see the nine slender arches of the entrance façade of the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle to the south of the route. The listed concert hall is located directly next to Bürgerpark, a modern city park with a café and playground.
In the north-eastern part of Bürgerpark - opposite Rudolf-Oetker-Halle - stands a moose sculpture: how many children have wanted to sit on the moose's back and marvel at the world from above?
Siegfriedplatz is the living room of Bielefeld's west. Everyone is welcome at "Auf'm Siggi". Civic involvement and small stores enliven the square and provide cultural and gastronomic highlights. Visit the weekly market (Wednesday and Friday mornings), stroll through the flea market (last Saturday of the month) or have a picnic on the sunlit pavement with the smell of freshly roasted coffee in your nose and melt-in-the-mouth ice cream in your hand!
Back in the old town, the spacious Sculpture Park of the Kunsthalle Bielefeld offers the best conditions for an inspiring break in the open air. Stroll between the sculptures by Olafur Eliasson, Sol LeWitt, Henry Moore, Thomas Schütte and other artists or linger by the water basin.
In the Waldhof, which was built in the late Renaissance, the Kunstverein Bielefeld invites you to experience the exciting trends in contemporary art and be surprised by young artistic positions.
The Alter Markt is the heart of the old town and a popular meeting place at any time of year. Between lovingly restored historic facades and gables, culinary delights also invite you to take a break.
From the Old Market, it is only a few meters to the start and finish point of the "um'n Pudding" route at the Tourist Information Office in the New Town Hall.
