Meret Oppenheim - From "transitional creature" to high-flyer

Exhibition
Lecture/reading
Lecture by Dr. Anne Simone Kiesiel, art historian, Hamburg:
Meret Oppenheim is considered one of the most fascinating artists of the 20th century - a personality full of change, courage and creative freedom. She constantly reinvented herself, broke boundaries and experimented with genres, techniques and identities. She took the liberty to be free - uncompromisingly and against all odds. She never wanted to be a muse, she wanted to create herself. With her legendary fur cup, she created a work in her early twenties that became an icon of modernism. To this day, Meret Oppenheim stands for artistic radicalism and female emancipation.

On April 10, the Ahlers Pro Arte Foundation invites you to rediscover the life and work of this extraordinary artist with Anne Simone Kiesiel. Oppenheim took her first steps in the circle of surrealists - and soon made art history. The lecture traces her rapid artistic transformation and uses selected works to illuminate the impressive complexity of her oeuvre.

You can look forward to an inspiring evening about a woman who was always ahead of her time.

Anne Simone Kiesiel works as a freelance author and curator specializing in contemporary art. Her texts have appeared in Monopol online, NZZ, TAZ and Zeit online, among others. She recently curated exhibitions for the Kienzle Art Foundation (Berlin) and Schloss Biesdorf (Berlin).
