Chor- und Orchesterkonzert - Glanzlichter der Klassik
Sunday, May 31, 2026 | 4:30 pm
St. Peter and Paul Church
Lange Straße 79 | Bad Driburg
On Sunday, May 31, a special concert will take place at 4:30 pm in the parish church of St. Peter and Paul in Bad Driburg. Two central works of Viennese classical music, known for their technical brilliance and positive energy, will be performed: Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Paris Symphony" and Ludwig van Beethoven's Mass in C major.
Mozart wrote his 31st Symphony in 1778 for one of the best orchestras of his time in Paris. The composition is correspondingly virtuosic and rich in sound. With its festive use of trumpets and timpani and the elegant melodies of the woodwinds, it is considered one of his most effective orchestral works.
Ludwig van Beethoven's Mass in C major (op. 86) marks a turning point in music history with its forward-looking tonal language; the focus is on the interpretation of the text's content. In accordance with the connotation of the text, lyrical and energetic sections always follow one another in rich contrast. The diverse dynamics and expressive character make the work a sonic experience that fully exploits the possibilities of the church space.
The program is presented by a large project choir comprising the "Cäcilia" church choir, the Bad Driburg vocal ensemble and the Oelde music association. The Detmolder Kammerorchester is an ensemble of highly talented young artists; the orchestra was awarded the Echo Klassik Prize in 2015, among other accolades. The musical director is church musician Simon Brüggeshemke.
The concert is supported by the Archdiocese of Paderborn, the Cultural Foundation of Westfälische Provinzial Versicherungen and the Volksbank.
Admission is free, donations are requested. A warm invitation!
