Lichtenau-Asseln is home to what was once the largest inland wind farm in Europe.
A total of 78 turbines between 200 and 3000 kW and an installed rated output of 87 megawatts are located on the site. The wind farm is an important showcase project for climate protection in East Westphalia and for the energy town of Lichtenau. The electricity produced here is equivalent to the annual consumption of around 50,000 households.
