Queen Mathilde Square

street art/ art in public space
The Königin-Mathilde-Platz is a beautifully designed square in the city center, whose eye-catcher is a bronze statue of Queen Mathilde, mother of the Ottonians and founder of the monastery in Enger. The work was created by Enger artist Eberhard Hellinge, who is also responsible for the Widukind fountain on Barmeierplatz within sight of the square.
Information boards give interested parties an insight into the life of the canonized Mathilde.
Mathildenplatz, as the people of Enger call it for short, is a popular meeting place, not least because of the Degrassi ice cream parlor located there.
During the summer season, various cultural events take place here, such as the summer night cinema and the Mathildenplatz concerts.
