The area around the reservoir is home to the Neuenheerse sports field, the Neuenheerse outdoor swimming pool and the campsite by the reservoir. On the eastern side of the lake, the dense mixed forest extends right down to the lakeshore. There are numerous cycling and hiking trails around the Nethestausee. The local fishing club Neuenheerse e.V. offers fishing day tickets from May to October. These can be purchased at the Tourist Information in Bad Driburg. In order to expand the existing fishing opportunities, a disabled and wheelchair-accessible fishing jetty was built in 2011.
