The HW4 runs for around 7 kilometers through forest and stream valley and offers a varied combination of shady sections and open paths.

From the parking lot at the bus turnaround area, the route first leads east into the forest to the Eggeweg, which is followed to the south. Passing the Asselner Hütte hut, the route later turns right and continues through the Glasewasser stream valley. The trail then follows the Torfbruchstraße to the north back to the starting point;
