Erdfall "Spielmanns Kuhle" bei Paderborn-Dahl

Nature discovery trail
nature experiences - various
With a diameter of around 45 meters and a depth of up to 20 meters, Spielmanns Kuhle is the largest sinkhole in this area.
The natural, mostly funnel-shaped collapses occur because carbonated rainwater that seeps into the fissured limestone layers near the surface dissolves the limestone from the rock. In this way, cavities are formed which, when they become too large, collapse. Groups of trees and shrubs in the middle of open farmland are often an indication of a sinkhole.
