On the demolition wall of the former quarry on the edge of the Merschetal valley, the layering of the limestone in the subsoil of the Paderborn plateau with its horizontal bench joints and vertical fissures can be clearly seen. Such quarries can be found in many places on the plateau, as limestone was used for centuries as a typical building material for houses and churches, including the parish church of St. Margaretha in Dahl.
