The historic narrow-gauge railway line - now a popular cycle and footpath

The historic railway line - today a popular cycle and footpath

After the railroad lines between the major cities were built, the rural areas were opened up. In the district, the Herforder Kleinbahn between Vlotho and Spenge was built first. The line between Herford and Enger was completed on August 10, 1900. Freight transportation for agriculture and local passenger transport were the strengths of the small railroads - today one would say: sustainable and regional! The last passenger train ran through the Füllenbruch on 24.4.1966, the rails were removed and the embankment is now a popular cycle and footpath.
