The Hiddenhausen nature tour begins at the picturesque Handicraft Museum, part of the extraordinary ensemble of buildings that make up the "Haus Hiddenhausen" estate. The route leads past green pastures to the Bustedter Wiesen, which are both a flood retention basin and nature reserve. The route continues along the Brandbach stream to Gut Bustedt, an old moated castle dating back to the 15th century and today an important environmental education center. The small railway line takes you to Füllenbruch, a damp depression with many meadows, valuable plant populations and near-natural streams. Passing old farmsteads, a rare galley and a Frenchman's grave, you return to the starting point.
Further information on the route and the waypoints can be found on the Herford district cycling leisure website: www.fahr-im-kreis.de. An audio guide and a brochure are also available for download there.
