Monument
Tolls used to be collected at the turnpike near the farm
Many farms are or used to be located at the gates of the town. In earlier times, there was a tollgate next to certain farms, which was erected to collect road tolls. Its function has long since disappeared, but the name ("Bäumer") has stuck with many farming families.

The history of the Bäumerhof in Sundern can be traced back to the 16th century and is closely linked to the history of Herford Abbey.

The large four-column half-timbered building that stands here today was built in 1819 by Johann Heinrich Niederbäumer, son of the Niederbäumer on Bielefelder Straße in Herford. He had the old buildings, which formerly belonged to the Herford abbess's farmyard, demolished. The façade facing Bünder Straße was designed to be particularly representative. It is now a listed building.
