This unsignposted circular route between Hiddenhausen and Schweicheln is a scenically varied, hilly tour through urban and rural areas and is perfect for cyclists with a basic level of fitness who are interested in the topic of monuments.

The route starts and ends at the parking lot at the Holzhandwerksmuseum / Gut Hiddenhausen (Maschstraße 16 in Hiddenhausen).

The Hiddenhausen Monument Route is a 20 km circular route that leads through the most beautiful landscapes, to numerous monuments, historical buildings and natural landmarks. The starting and finishing point is the picturesque Handwerksmuseum, part of the extraordinary ensemble of buildings at Gut Hiddenhausen. The route leads past green pastures to the Bustedter Wiesen meadows, which are both a flood retention basin and nature reserve. The journey continues along the Brandbach stream to Gut Bustedt, an old moated castle from the 15th century and today an important environmental education center. Passing the French tomb and the clock tower in Lippinghausen, you reach Füllenbruch, a damp depression with many meadows, valuable plant populations and near-natural streams. The route then continues towards Sundern along the foot of the Schweichelner Berg to the museum school, which is well worth seeing. From there, the route continues downhill to the Werre, which you accompany a short distance to the north. From the river valley, the return route leads over the northern foothills of the Schweichelner Berg - the highest point of the route is reached here - to further monuments in the districts of Eilshausen and Hiddenhausen.

The route leads almost exclusively along roads with little traffic, independent cycle paths and paved farm tracks, some of which are closed to through traffic. Some ascents require a good basic level of fitness and a little riding technique is an advantage on the descents.

Further information on the route and the waypoints can be found on the Herford district cycling leisure website: www.fahr-im-kreis.de. A brochure is also available there as a free download.
