This circular route takes you through mostly mountainous terrain with wonderful views and varied landscapes. The start is at Vlotho train station, then it's a leisurely ride through the old town with the Home of Vlotho and its beautiful half-timbered houses and churches worth seeing. Immediately afterwards, the most difficult ascent of the tour leads up to the Amtshausberg. There you have a wonderful view of the Weser valley from Vlotho Castle. The route continues past Bonneberg and Sprickberg over the hilly Vahrenbrinkstraße down to the historic highway viaduct at Steinegge. On the other side, the road leads up to Detmolder Straße, where you first reach the highest point of the tour and shortly afterwards Lindemanns Mühle. Built in 1850 from mighty quarrystones, the cap windmill is idyllically situated on Steinegger Berg and offers the viewer an impressive sight. In this type of mill, the so-called cap with the wings can be rotated. Civil weddings have recently been possible in the building, which is protected as a technical cultural monument. The mill association organizes events such as mill and harvest days and offers guided tours with coffee for groups. After another short climb, the route descends to the Exter highway church. Past the Solterberg, the bikes roll almost exclusively downhill via Hollwiesen and past the Gnuse hammer mill near Valdorf down to the Weser. Signposts lead back to the station from there. The route leads almost exclusively along roads with little traffic, independent cycle paths and paved farm tracks. Only one 500-metre section is not asphalted, but it can definitely be ridden on thin tires.
An alternative starting point is the parking lot at the Exter freeway church (Alter Schulweg 2). However, it is also possible to set off from any other location on the route.Further information on the route and the waypoints can be found on the Herford district cycling leisure website: www.fahr-im-kreis.de.
