This unsignposted circular route through Kirchlengern and the surrounding area is a varied tour through hilly countryside with several viewpoints, making it perfect for experienced cyclists interested in the subject of monuments. The hilly landscape is not only very scenic, it is also good for your calves and fitness level.

The route starts and ends at Kirchlengern station.

The monument route through the municipality of Kirchlengern starts at the train station. After visiting the old station buildings and the famous, ancient dugout canoe in the town hall, you cycle up to Hüller - the focus here is on drinking water. In the northern part of the tour, you cycle in constant proximity to the water network of the Rehmerloh-Mennighüffer-Mühlenbach stream. Numerous branches of the stream with a mosaic of grassland, fields, tall shrubs and forest enrich the landscape until you reach Stift Quernheim. Supplied with information about the ladies of the monastery in the manor house, you return to the Else cycle path and past the Aqua Fun leisure pool. From there, you can return directly to the starting point or take a trip up to the Reesberg with a magnificent view of the Ravensberg hills. After heading south through the Brandhorst district, you will reach the Oberbehme and Steinlake estates. From there, it is only a short distance until you cross the Else at the Brausemühle mill and reach your starting point at Kirchlengern railroad station.

The route leads almost exclusively along roads with little traffic, independent cycle paths and paved farm tracks, some of which are closed to through traffic. The longer ascent to the Reesberg summit in particular requires a good basic level of fitness and some cycling technique is an advantage on the descent.

Further information on the route and the waypoints can be found on the Herford district cycling leisure website: www.fahr-im-kreis.de. A brochure is also available there as a free download.

Directions

From the starting point at the station, head east along Bahnhofstraße to the level crossing at the old small railway station. From there, it is worth taking a detour to the kart track to the east. The route briefly heads west on the other side of the railroad tracks and then north past the church and the town hall. The route continues north to the old waterworks near the Hüller, before turning east behind the water tower and following the Rehmerloh-Mennighüffer-Mühlenbach nature reserve towards Ulenburg Castle. Behind the traditional half-timbered house, however, the route turns left and heads north again and from Häver at the Feuerwehrmuseum back in a westerly direction via Voßbrink and past the Hagedorn church and then north again to Rehmerloh. There, the route turns west again and reaches the Bauernbad Rehmerloh and then the collegiate church with the manor house in Stift Quernheim. The route then heads south via Reinkenort, Spradow and from Südbrock, with the Aqua Fun and the minigolf course and the multi-generation park, along the River Else back to the starting point at the train station in Kirchlengern. Shortly before the station, the route turns south and leads past the Südlengern elementary school and on via Branneke to Eilshausen. From there, the route takes a wide arc in an easterly direction past the Oberbehme estate. The route continues past the Steinlake estate and crosses the River Else at the Brausemühle mill. The starting point is then reached at the train station in Kirchlengern.
