Unique mill experience
The Rossmühle is modeled on the outside of a giant coffee grinder and delights visitors with its traditional design. Particularly eye-catching is the so-called "Göpelanlage", a draw beam with a shaft that protrudes from the roof. This is where the horse that drives the mill is harnessed. During the museum farm's action days, you have the opportunity to experience the mill's still functioning grinding gear in action. The horse runs around the mill building and turns the gin in a circle - similar to turning a coffee grinder.
Varied demonstrations
The versatile use of the mill is particularly exciting. The horse not only drives the grinding gear, but can also be used for "boken" (flax crushing) by operating a four-fold tamping mechanism. It is also used as an "alternating mechanism" for a grist aisle. On our special grinding and baking days as well as on the museum farm's action days, we offer fascinating demonstrations that take you into the tradition of Westphalian craftsmanship.
Visiting times and group tours
The Rossmühle can be visited from mid-March to mid-October during the museum farm's opening hours. Our doors are open for you from Tuesday to Sunday, from 13:00 to 18:00. A barrier-free toilet is also available.
For groups of 20 to 50 people, we offer guided tours by arrangement as well as Westphalian hospitality provided by our dedicated volunteers.
A feast for the senses
Visit the Rossmühle Rahden and experience a living connection to the history of the region. Let yourself be carried away by the atmosphere of the historic farm, the typical regional peasant clothing and the exhibition of historic craftsmanship. The Rossmühle is not only a place of technology, but also a space full of tradition and community.
