Fortress/Castle
Rahden Castle is a former moated castle in the town of Rahden in the Mühlenkreis district of Minden-Lübbecke.
The castle ruins in Rahden are over 570 years old and originally consisted of a considerable complex of buildings surrounded by a mighty moat. The castle was the main building, part of which can still be visited today. The coat of arms of the Bussche family can still be seen on the back of the former castle. They were pledge holders of the castle from 1391 to 1395. In addition to the main castle building, the complex also included an elongated horse house, another side wing, a connecting house, towers and a gatehouse. Access to the castle was via an embankment that led to the castle from the south from Lemförder Straße. The access bridge was also located here. The entire castle complex measured approx. 63 x 53 meters.
