At 431 hectares, the nature reserve, which is important throughout Europe, is the second largest wetland reserve in the district of Gütersloh. It stretches along the River Ems into the district of Paderborn. In the west, the almost flat meadow and pasture landscape borders directly on the Rietberg fish ponds. Established in 1986 to preserve the communities and habitats of wild plants and animals, it is considered one of the most important resting and breeding areas for numerous endangered bird species and, together with the adjacent nature reserves "Rietberger Fischteiche" and "Steinhorster Becken", is therefore part of the EU Natura 2000 bird sanctuary. The unspoiled nature invites you to take long walks and cycle tours.
