The Grafschaftslauf is a run through the eventful regional history of the three towns of the former county of Rietberg: Rietberg, Verl and Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. The former castle grounds at the Rietberg estate are the official starting point, but can only be entered for the actual run. During the rest of the year, the route starts outside the gates of the Rietberg estate and then reaches Rietberg town center. For the running event, the route now heads towards the garden show grounds. Throughout the year, the path along the Ems lowlands, which cannot tolerate the many runners at the same time for nature conservation reasons, may be used. Along the Steinhorst basin, the trail leads to St. Anna's Church in Verl-Kaunitz and then through Liemke towards the varied former manorial hunting forest, the Holter Forest, in the middle of which you reach the bright yellow Holte Hunting Lodge in Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock.
