NSG Bramschebach- / Nagelsbachtal

Nestled amid the fields lie the wooded side valleys of the Bramschebach Valley, which winds its way through the landscape like a many-legged lindworm. Even today, the banks of the Bramschebach and Nagelsbach streams are lined with many pastures and meadows, mostly in damp areas. In the spring, cuckoo flower and marsh marigold bloom here, followed later by the ragged robin and then the golden-yellow buttercup. Butterflies and other insects feed on the flowers of these plants, which in turn serve as food for amphibians and birds. When they can no longer be farmed, the valuable grassland areas along the stream develop into tall forb communities, overgrown primarily with stinging nettles. However, the goal of nature conservation is to preserve the wet meadows and pastures with their high biodiversity. Local farmers continue to manage many of these areas extensively through regular mowing and careful grazing.
