The Bönker quarry is located in the middle of the Teutoburg Forest. Limestone was once mined there. Today, the site is used for various events. Against the picturesque backdrop of the spacious quarry, various events take place on the open-air/natural stage, e.g. theater performances (also in Low German), open-air concerts, the summer academy and much more.
The PIUMER Bauerntheater e.V. has its origins in the amateur drama group of the Borgholzhausen rural youth. In 1993, they dared to put on a play in the ballroom at Hagemeyer-Singenstroth. After this success, it was clear that the acting talents should be used and plays should be performed regularly.
As the former Bönker quarry in Borgholzhausen offered an unusual opportunity to stage an open-air event there, this was successfully tried out. A spacious natural and open-air stage was created.
The foundation stone was laid for the very successful history of the PIUMER Bauerntheater to date. As the duration of the play increased, so did its success and popularity. In the meantime, the PIUMER Bauerntheater has become an integral part of the events calendar in Borgholzhausen. It has also "earned" a loyal audience beyond the region.
Since 2009, the "PBT" has been a registered association that is particularly committed to maintaining and spreading the Low German language. In addition to performing plays, the aim is to revive dialect customs in Borgholzhausen and the surrounding area.
