Start your picnic tour in the heart of the town of Versmold.
From here, you can head straight to the Versmolder Bruch bird sanctuary. The viewing plateau is an ideal picnic spot for your first break.
Enjoy the unspoiled natural area with its wet meadows, alder swamp forests and the floodplain landscape between the Aabach, Neuer and Alter Hessel rivers. Extensive farming methods with low livestock numbers, gentle fertilization and late mowing have preserved a particularly species-rich biocoenosis here. Hedges and copses still provide a structured landscape today. In Greffen, the barbecue area on Warendorfer Landweg is a great place to take a break and enjoy a picnic.
The route then takes you along the gurgling Ems for around 10 km before you reach the Boomberge nature reserve. At around 79 m, this important inland dune area in the district of Gütersloh is the highest point in Harsewinkel - so no need to feel dizzy.
The next picnic stop is not far away: the monastery ensemble in Marienfeld with the abbey church, the monastery store, the garden, the monastery café and the monastery gate offers something for all the senses.
You cycle through Marienfeld along the Lutter, where you can admire the Auenland alpacas. You will then reach the Hühnermoor. At 4,000 years old, this is the oldest nature reserve in the district and is home to unique flora and fauna. It is particularly worth a visit in spring when the cotton grass is in bloom. To the south of the nature reserve, you can take a look at the renaturalized Lutter. Directly behind the Hühnermoor, you will reach the Marienfeld local history museum with its café in the chicken coop. Proven long-distance cycle paths lead you through the beautiful Harsewinkel town center, to the Versmolder Bruch and finally back to the center of Versmold.

Visit a jazz concert at the Farmhouse Jazzclub, Harsewinkel. Nationally and internationally renowned musicians have been performing here at weekends for 40 years. On Sundays, the matinees take place outdoors under the gnarled oak trees.
