Public guided tour of Herford: The Catholic Church in Herford after the Reformation

Guided tour/tour
Luther's posting of his theses at the castle church in Wittenberg in 1517 is regarded as the starting signal for the Reformation in Germany. Herford was one of the first towns to join in.
The town's churches were stormed and either closed or rededicated as Protestant places of worship. Nevertheless, Catholic life in Herford never completely ceased. Even if its church services were only attended by one or two handfuls of people at times, it slowly grew from a thin, barely perceptible trickle back into a visible flow. Today, Catholic institutions such as the Mathildenhospital, the Wilhelm Oberhaus elementary school and, of course, the "Herford Vatican" on Komturstraße make a noticeable contribution to the life of the town. The tour takes you to the important stages of this development.

Due to the current construction work on Rathausplatz, the meeting point is in Abteistraße, opposite the rear entrance to the Tourist Information Office.
