- Start: Herford-Zentrum, Wilhelmsplatz near the train station
- Destination: Herford-Zentrum, Wilhelmsplatz near the train station
The route starts and finishes at Wilhelmsplatz near the train station, so it is advisable for non-Herford residents to travel by train. Alternatively, starting in Bad Salzuflen is of course also a good option. Here, too, the route leads directly past the train station.
From Wilhelmsplatz in Herford, the cycle path follows the Werre for a short section before the route leads out of Herford on Vlothoer Straße. The terrain climbs steadily here. If you want to save yourself the climb up the Stuckenberg, you can turn right at this point and cycle along the southern edge of the city forest via the zoo to Bad Salzuflen. This shortens the tour to an additional 18 km.
The main route, however, leads up the northern flank of the Stuckenberg to the Hotel Waldesrand, which invites you to take a coffee break after the sporting challenge. From here, the Wald & Wiesen route runs along the northern edge of the city forest along the Finnebach stream down to the Salze valley. From the north, the entrance to Bad Salzuflen along the Salze, via the Kurpark and the graduation towers is particularly attractive. The old town of the spa town with its healing waters invites you to take a stroll through the town and enjoy some culinary delights. From Bad Salzuflen, the cycle path leads directly along the banks of the Werre into the center of Herford, offering a traffic-free and relaxing entry into the district town. Herford's old town is then circumnavigated along the old ramparts, so that all points and places in the city center can be reached quickly from the route.
This family-friendly circular route offers a varied environment from the historic city centers of Herford and Bad Salzuflen to the Werre valley and the urban forests, inviting you to enjoy numerous activities along the way. The route is mostly traffic-free, as independent cycle paths or asphalted side roads are used.
