It is intended to promote the relaxation of body and soul, enhance health, has a rather cheerful nature, and naturally appeals to a wide audience: the spa music. A particularly successful advocate of this genre is the "Bad Salzuflen Orchestra".
The founder and conductor of the Staatsbad Orchestra is the Hungarian-born György Kovacs, who studied clarinet himself and graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
The daily spa music can be heard with a lineup of up to seven musicians, in the mornings and afternoons, except Mondays. In the winter months, the orchestra plays with a smaller ensemble. The spa concerts feature potpourris in the first half, for example from operettas and overtures, and in the second half, melodies from musicals and pop songs, swing, Dixieland, and more. Special concerts have specific themes, such as the trip to Italy with music by Verdi and Rossini, or French composers like Bizet and Massenet. The most well-attended are the request concerts on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons.
