La Grazia

Mariano De Santis (Toni Servillo) is the President of the Italian Republic. A widower and devout Catholic, he lives with his daughter Dorotea (Anna Ferzetti), who, like him, is a lawyer. Towards the end of his term of office, a final responsibility awaits him: the decision on two delicate appeals for clemency. These cases present him with serious moral dilemmas that are closely interwoven with his personal life and seem almost inseparable. As doubts gnaw at him, he wrestles with questions of law, justice and responsibility. In the end, a decision is made that makes the tension between public office and private life vividly visible.
