Each local community developed an "everyday person" who represents the people in the village in the past, today or in the future. By agreeing on a single, representative person, communication in the local area was promoted: people dealt with their own identity, the history and the future of their local area.
The result is also increased communication between the local communities. The aim of strengthening the sense of unity and identity of the five districts and at the same time highlighting commonalities and the solidarity between the districts of our city has thus been achieved.
In the course of the year, the local associations will provide typical decorations for the plaque and the figures.
Place of the SHS Everyday People
The five figures of the "SHS Everyday People" are grouped around a plaque, where there is also enough space for visitors. This was actually a great fit for the city brunch, where the everyday people were to be unveiled. One of the special features of 2020 was to do this on a very small scale.
The table society is set up on a specially created wooden platform centrally between the traffic circle and the town hall. This creates an exciting place with a high quality of stay in the center of the city.
Something special was to be created for the 50th anniversary of SHS. The characterful concrete figures by sculptor Christel Lechner were a great idea from Bernd Gebauer, the first councillor at the time. And the idea of allowing the districts to help shape them was even better!
The aim of this project - in addition to the wonderful ensemble itself - was to strengthen the sense of unity and identity of the five districts and at the same time highlight the commonalities and solidarity between the districts.
The idea of the SHS everyday people
The artistic staging was intended to create an exciting place with a high quality of stay in the center of Schloß Holte-Stukenbrock. The location of our five everyday people is the centrally located square at the traffic circle by the town hall. This was a special challenge for the districts, but also for the artist: the everyday people were not only supposed to represent the district individually, but also function as a group.
This is why not only the people in the districts worked together, but also the local communities among themselves. As part of the process, cooperation between the districts was also established and intensified. A result that everyone involved is very happy about.
Funding as part of the Heimat-Werkstatt
The SHS-Alltagsmenschen are 80% funded by the Ministry of Homeland, Municipal Affairs, Building and Gender Equality of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
The funding was provided as part of the Heimat-Werkstatt, whose criteria the project ideally fulfills:
o Every region, every town or municipality and every district has defining characteristics with which the residents identify. This does not always happen consciously, but sometimes also unconsciously in everyday local life.
o We want to get people talking to each other about what constitutes their local identity and sensitize them to what connects them as a community in their immediate living environment.
o A "Heimat-Werkstatt" therefore always begins with an open discussion and work process that allows residents and locally significant organizations to participate in a broad way in the question of what shapes and defines them.
o The "Heimat-Werkstatt" is therefore also expressly aimed at people who are yet to be activated and won over for involvement in their social environment. The "Heimat-Werkstatt" therefore creates a culture of communication and communication structures and strengthens community awareness.
