Berliner Melodien
It is meant to serve the relaxation of body and soul, promote health, has a rather cheerful disposition, and naturally appeals to a broad audience: the spa music. A particularly successful advocate of this genre is the "Staatsbad Orchestra."
The founder and chief of the Staatsbad Orchestra is the Hungarian-born György Kovacs, who studied clarinet himself and graduated from the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest.
The daily spa music can be heard with an ensemble of up to seven musicians, in the morning and afternoon, except on Mondays. In the winter months, the orchestra plays in a smaller formation. The spa concerts feature potpourris in the first half, for example from operettas and overtures, and in the second half musical and pop melodies, swing, dixieland, and more. Special concerts have specific themes, such as a trip to Italy with music by Verdi and Rossini, or French composers like Bizet and Massenet. The most attended are the request concerts on Wednesday and Sunday afternoons.
