The fountain, also affectionately known as the pig fountain, refers to the traditional meat processing in the town of Versmold. Ham, bacon and Mettwurst sausage were Versmold export hits as early as the 19th century. The market square is the cradle of the Versmold meat industry. There is now a residential and commercial building on the square.
