History and affiliation
According to documents from the Reineberg office dating back to 1646, the mill belonged to the farm of the "Meyer zu Eilhausen". This historical connection can be traced back to the early modern period, and the mill has played an important role as a business unit and center of agriculture for centuries.
Location of the mill
The Eilhausen watermill is located directly on the B65, at the end of Eilhausen, in the direction of Nettelstedt. Its location on the edge of the village and its proximity to the B65 ensures that it is still a striking landmark in the region today.
The water wheel
A special feature of the mill is the overshot water wheel, which almost sinks into the deep water tank and has an impressive diameter of 2.6 meters. It is fed from the mill pond above, which has provided the mill with the necessary energy to do its work over the centuries.
The mill house
The mill house is a half-timbered, quarrystone building that was erected around 1700. The historical architectural style provides an insight into the architecture of the time and shows the typical construction methods for 17th century farms.
Operating times and end of use
The mill was in operation until the Second World War and had a facility with a grist mill and a grinding mill. However, with the end of the war and advancing industrialization, the mill was taken out of operation.
