St. John the Baptist Parish Church | Altenbeken-Schwaney

The parish church of St. John the Baptist in Schwaney is an impressive Neo-Gothic structure built of sandstone that has been a defining feature of the townscape for over 125 years.

Following a devastating fire in 1895, the current church was built and consecrated in 1898. Inside, three Neo-Gothic altars and intricately designed windows depicting the Seven Beatitudes are particularly impressive. Numerous restored works of art also bear witness to the church’s long history and its enduring significance for Schwaney.
