Rheda-Wiedenbrück

Historic town centre
Welcome to Rheda-Wiedenbrück!
Rheda-Wiedenbrück is a twin town that emerged from the two traditional towns of Rheda and Wiedenbrück in 1970. The Landesgartenschaupark from 1988 - today known as "Flora-Westfalica-Park" - connects the two historic town centers on three kilometers of almost barrier-free paths through beautiful nature.

Rheda-Wiedenbrück is a very old town: over 1000 years ago, Otto I, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, granted Wiedenbrück the rights to mint, market and customs. Rheda was first mentioned in a document in 1088. The historical buildings that have been preserved in the town are unusual: The castle in Rheda dating from around 1180 and the many half-timbered houses in Wiedenbrück are tourist attractions today. Over 200 buildings are listed.

A flying visit to the two cozy old towns is always worthwhile! The half-timbered houses in the narrow alleyways are richly decorated and it is a special pleasure to decipher the numerous inscriptions and symbols alone or with a city guide.

Individual, owner-managed stores, excellent restaurants, quaint pubs and cozy beer gardens promise a relaxing end to your day.

Have fun!
