The oil mill at Brake Castle in Lemgo is a technical cultural monument dating from 1806. The mill remained in operation until 1925 and was used to extract oil from various seeds. The historic machinery has been preserved to this day and provides a vivid impression of what it was like to work in a traditional oil mill.
The two castle mills showcase the history of milling from 1846 to the present. The exhibition provides information on milling technology, energy production, flax processing, and the life of the Vietmeier miller family and their experiences during the world wars.
